Fall2

Hey Lovelies!

Forgot to mention I fell AGAIN while running on Tuesday morning. Felt pretty foolish. No catch in the pavement to blame this time! Think I was/am simply trying to do too much. Need to remember to take care of myself!
I put that arnica cream straight onto the potentially bruisy bits and bruises don’t seem to have developed. Yey, happy knees!

Remember to take good care of yourselves!

Warming warning

Warm greetings from my warm abode to your warm heart,

Just went for a 1/3 walk, 2/3 run. Nobody else about. Sun beating down. Third day of VERY HOT here.

We had a power black out on Tuesday night. Lay around on the floor to keep cool.

Yesterday the train tracks buckled with the heat and the Train Service put on free shuttle buses and bottles of water to drink to get everyone home. I find it quite sobering to think that this is what a usual day could be if we don’t modify this global warming thing and plan for adaptation. And yet people still run their air conditioners pulling all that power! And design houses badly. That makes me crazy.

I went for a beautiful swim in the cold ocean last night.

Woke up hot again.

Warm regards (that’s the only kind I got right now!),
Meg

Note to self: Use the word unbenownst

Dear hale and hearty chummies! (That thar sounded a little piratey)

My peach tree had been manifesting – ever since blossom time last spring – 3 dear peaches, hiding them under it’s leaf coverage, and unbenownst to me until yesterday. What at clever tree!

Bruise update: Bruise is progressing through the rainbow colours and stages slowly but surely. Am convinced that the arnica cream is mitigating the situation. I won’t be photographing those dear knees for a blog picture!
Stilt walking update: Baby steps without holding hand or edges. I am proud of that. Now I just need to lift my knees up higher, take slightly bigger steps (toddler or pre-schooler steps?) and match the steps with arm swings.

Lots of good things to you,
Meg

I fell

Hello sweet readers! Greetings from my world!

Indeed I fell.

Was a legitimate fall (not a getting older “having-a-fall” fall) over an uneven paver join on a non-usual route. Somehow I rolled a little as my adrenalin-think was “this is going to hurt unless I can mitigate it with say? a roll”. I said a swear. I scraped my knees and the bases of my hands. Stingy. Jolty. Got up and kept running.

The relevance of all this is: Maybe a fall from standing height (with some forwards momentum, not hugely much but more than on steppy stilts!!!) onto rough pavement will make me less concerned about falling whilst stepping on stilts onto indoor floor. Maybe. I think it is going to be a matter of practice.

Look after your healths: mental, physical, heart,
Meg

Talking the walk…

… or Talking about Walking.

Hello Dear Ones,

I have been, and am, thinking about walking. This has been brought on by more attempts at walking on stilts.

When I did the “learn how” bit (about 3 months ago) I got the idea at first but then I kind of lost my nerve. Now I am going to short practise sessions to try to build ability/confidence. In between I have been thinking about walking.

I guess at one point in life I could crawl only, not walk (I don’t consciously remember this!) The lure of walking must have been strong enough to get me up into the walking plane. Scary, yet exciting. The call of the 3rd dimension. Now, if I trust the stilts (I do, I put them on nice and tight), and I can do the walking action (with the higher knee lifting), then it should be a mental exercise to be able to walk among the higher air. There just seems so much space around to fall into. What will call me as an adult? Conquering the skill, conquering the fear?
And why do I not have those falling fears on the trapeze? Oh, the gravity of gravity.

Maybe since it is night-time here, I will walk the web instead and see where I could buy me a pair of stilts whilst remaining comfortably seated.

Will keep you posted,
Take care!
Meg

Heat and grapes

Dearest blog buddies,

I hope this finds you in good health.
We will be having a hot day here today, 41 celcius predicted. I have given a few tender plants in the garden a trickle of water to help them through the day, and whilst there, I picked these lovely bunches of grapes:

Bounty of grape

Bounty of grape

I decided they would look nice on that vintage plate. I am hereby deciding that I will not be doing a lino print of a bunch of grapes. I am too awful at cutting small circles out of lino. However at some point I would like a simplified version of the plate design to appear in one of my pictures.
I love looking at and then eating stuff of those plates. I got them from an op shop last year, and have enjoyed them every day, wondering about their history, knowing they have one.

I am not an air-conditioner person (don’t have one) so there will be a lot of ice-block drinks and possibly a trip to the shopping centre air-conditioning today!

Take good care of yourselves,
Meg

Stinky bins, herbs, book acquisition

Hey there blog fans!

Hope the New Year has started well for you.

Warm day for a run. And it’s bin day. Didn’t notice most of the time, but occasionally I passed through a big wafty cloud of invisible Bin Smell. Reminded me that the more we can compost and bokashi and use worms so the organic matter doesn’t go to landfill, the better!
I have been using the bokashi compost, keeping a lot of green waste out of my landfill bin, getting litres of brown bokashi fertiliser juice and plenty of organic dig-in matter for enriching the soil.

You know I am a fan of the Farmers Market, right? (My local is the Adelaide Showgrounds one, 9 til 1 on Sundays) Even more so after getting a membership for my birthday and reading Animal Vegetable Miracle (by Barbara Kingsolver)! Over the little Christmas break I bought some potting soil and soil wetter stuff, and filled up some pots I had sitting around. This week I purchased some lovely herbs at the Farmers Market. Now in the big pots along with my Christmas herbs (Thai Mint and Wavy purple basil) are thriving Common Mint, Spearmint (the leaf is smaller and it smells even sweeter), Stevia, Marjoram and Pineapple Sage (yummy – just smells like icy summer drinks should taste).

I bought the book “Lucky Man” by Michael J. Fox (link to book on Amazon) when I was away for a couple of days. (I must have really been in holiday mode cos it seems like a while since I pottered around book shops and decided I would purchase an actual book!) I really enjoyed reading it. Here’s a link to Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s Research site if you want to check it out.

Will organise some scanning time and give you a lino print update soon.
Warm wishes,
Meg

The sorry tale of meany Meg and the Robust Redback

A sad story, dear readers,

The redback spider was existing quietly, hiding cleverly.

I came in the roller-door end of the garage to see the little arachnid poised warily on his web structure. Minutes later I strategically returned via the house-door end of the garage, he/she had by then tucked him/herself under the saddle of the Red Bike where nary a rolled-up newspaper could impact. So clever.

I still feel both proud and guilty. One would think I am too large to be feeling bad about a small spider concealing himself in my little used garage. However, the redback is pretty poisonous etc, so I for the human good I decided I ought squash or thwart him.

It’s not very green I know to squirt with supermarket poison, and not very fair. I bought anti-spider spray. It isn’t even good for humans: WILL irritate your eyes. MAY irritate your skin. WASH YOUR HANDS. Facial skin contact may cause temporary facial numbness. Do not inhale spray. Wear rubber gloves. After each days use wash gloves… There are more warnings, more on the can (not written in spider, written in human language).

I squirted with the toxic chemicals. It worked. He died. I will sweep him up when he is dried up a bit.

Not a fair fight. I feel bad. It did need to be done.

Abashedly yours,
Meg
